More details about Kim

FULL INTRODUCTION

Kim is a qualified Positive Psychology Practitioner, combining her knowledge of applied Positive Psychology in schools with 10 years’ experience teaching Psychology, extensive experience of secondary school leadership and a great passion for developing school mental health and wellbeing. She has been working with schools over several years to develop strategic proactive approaches to mental health and wellbeing, including the development of wellbeing curricula and lessons for primary, secondary and post-16 pupils.

Kim developed her interest in the resilience of young people and preventative methods to reduce mental illness working as a Psychology teacher and Assistant Head of Sixth form at Alcester Grammar School, Warwickshire. This gave her an insight into the wide range of mental health issues experienced by young people and led to her interest in positive psychology and determination to spot young people who were languishing to help build their resilience and to encourage and support them to thrive.

Along with supporting pupils, Kim is passionate about supporting teachers and school staff to develop wellbeing. Kim is particularly interested in the individuality of teachers approaches to the mental wellbeing of their students and feels strongly that these practical steps within the classroom should be shared with other professionals.

Kim is a passionate, dynamic and humorous speaker applying Positive Psychology methods and ideas to a wide range of audiences including school leaders, teachers, staff teams, parents and working directly with children and young people.

Kim has extensive experience in working with Christian faith schools, supporting them to develop approaches to wellbeing that complement and support a faith school ethos.

Kim is qualified with Master’s degree in Positive Psychology and Coaching at the University of East London. Her research is exploring how teachers implement Positive Psychology training into their classrooms following training with Worth-it. She is an accredited at Senior Practitioner Level with the EMCC

PASSIONS AND INTERESTS

Kim is passionate about using applied Positive Psychology and Coaching approaches to improve the lives and wellbeing of others. She is particularly interested in developing positive relationships and the use of positive language within schools for both teachers and students. As a teacher, recognising staff and students who were not flourishing and thriving was extremely important to her. Through encouragement and active listening, alongside interventions that had been scientifically tested by Positive Psychologists, the transformations not only of people but of institutions became the most rewarding part of my career.

Kim is enthusiastic about furthering the application of Positive Psychology and Coaching approaches in schools and institutions across the UK through speaking engagements, training, contributing to research and working alongside others.
