Children in need of resilience

The mental health and wellbeing of the children and young people is an increasing concern for schools and organisations that support them. Mental health problems are on the rise and many organisations and schools feel ill-equipped to manage these challenges. Supporting children and young people to develop resilience is a key component of any school or organisational approach to supporting their mental health and wellbeing. The Department for Education has now made pupil mental health, wellbeing and resilience a priority for schools.

 

Resilience Workshop for Children and Young People

Worth-it's fun and engaging resilience workshops enable children to explore a variety of resources for supporting resilience and encourage the development of positive coping strategies, helping them to better manage the pressures and cope with challenges that they face in their daily lives. The workshops are underpinned by an evidence base of positive psychology approaches proven to build resilience and wellbeing.

Our workshops are flexible to fit a range of school or organisational requirements. We provide short presentation workshops for larger groups of young people, year groups and classes as well as targeted smaller group work sessions.

This solution provides proactive early support that encourages the development of resilience in children and young people through offering ideas, tips, and self-help strategies. This approach meets the requirements of PHSE and Mental Health curriculums.

Option A: Introducing Resilience - Presentation style

This presentation introduces key concepts for the development of resilience, and provided tips and ideas for developing resilience through a range of engaging slides and video clip content. The session covers:

  • What is wellbeing?
  • Why resilience is essential for success and wellbeing
  • How to define and use resilience
  • How to develop resilient thinking
  • How to be resilient and overcome setbacks
  • Self-help tips and strategies which can be used day-to-day to manage challenges

Option B: Strategies for Building Resilience - Interactive small group style

  • Who am I? Developing ideas about ourselves – self and emotional awareness
  • Using resilient thinking types to manage challenging situations
  • Ways to build helpful and optimistic thinking, a protective factor key to developing resilience
  • How to cope positively with failure and bounce back from setbacks

How are these workshops delivered?

We have designed our workshops a to fit range of school or organisational requirements, offering short presentation workshops for larger groups of children or young people, year groups and classes, and more interactive workshops for smaller targeted groups.

We have versions of the workshops suitable for different ages and Key Stages. The duration of the workshop depends on the group size and age, which is flexible to fit your school or organisation’s needs. Presentations are usually 45- 60 minutes and workshops 60- 120 minutes.

These workshops have been developed upon theory and research from resilience literature, combined with our extensive experience supporting individuals and groups of children and young people to develop resilience and wellbeing, and published research on our integrated positive psychology coaching approach.

  • Who am I? Developing ideas about ourselves – self and emotional awareness
  • Using resilient thinking types to manage challenging situations
  • Ways to build helpful and optimistic thinking, a protective factor key to developing resilience
  • How to cope positively with failure and bounce back from setbacks
