NEET Prevention and Mental Health

We deliver interventions that Improve the Employability, Wellbeing and Resilience of NEET Young People

Mental illness is the largest single source of burden of disease in the UK. It is associated with social exclusion, deprivation, low income, unemployment and low educational attainment. 75% of chronic mental illness starts before people reach their mid 20’s. Many young adults are not in employment due to poor mental wellbeing or being unemployed is causing young people to develop mental health problems.

The Prince’s Trust Macquarie Youth Index reveals how almost half of young adults not in work claim that unemployment has caused problems mental health problems such as panic attacks, self-loathing depression and self-harm.

We apply an integrated evidence based coaching and positive psychology approach to developing the employability skills of young people suffering from common mental health problems such as anxiety and depression, in doing so improving their mental wellbeing and helping them return to education, engage in training or gain employment.

Wellbeing and Preventing NEETs

According to the Health Inequality and Access to Justice: Young People, Mental Health and Legal Issues report, 60 % of young NEETs (not in employment, education or training) who completed the evaluation, have already experienced more than one mental health problem in childhood or adolescence, compared to around 35% of young people who were in education, employment or training. Providing targeted interventions that improve wellbeing and resilience to young people at risk of becoming NEET is essential to support them achieve several positive outcomes, including employment, engaging in learning and preventing mental health problems.

With over 25 years combined experience of supporting the employability of vulnerable young people and through working collaboratively with unemployed and NEET young people we have built a clear understanding of the difficulties they face in securing education, employment or training opportunities. This expertise and knowledge has enabled us to ensure that our targeted support interventions are accessible and available to young people through arrange of effective collaborations with partner organisations.  We provide one to one sessions employability and wellbeing coaching, small group sessions and group work programmes for unemployed and NEET young people, aged 16-25.

We know NEET and unemployed young people need strategies that work and that enable them to help themselves secure and sustain education, training or work. We offer a range of employability interventions created and designed to prevent young people becoming NEET through improving resilience and wellbeing by raising their self-awareness, improving their communication, confidence and interpersonal skills, effectively developing their skills for employment. The young people accessing our support are empowered and feel confident and able to continue using strategies they have learned, even long after they have completed our interventions.

Support for Unemployed Young People

We have created our own unique approach specifically for vulnerable unemployed young people with mental health problems drawing our tools, techniques and research from the fields of employability, careers guidance, evidence based coaching and positive psychology.  We deliver this support through group work programmes, workshops, one to one coaching sessions or packages of support.

Our programmes are ideal for unemployed young adults, care leavers, young carers and those who have low confidence, motivation and aspirations due to poor mental wellbeing and need extra support to overcome internal barriers to employment.

Our employability programmes create positive changes to the way workless young people see themselves in relation employment. Through engaging in our interventions young people improve their thoughts and behaviours around self-reliance, resilience, communication skills, confidence and aspirations resulting in a range of positive outcomes, such as gaining employment, volunteering or returning to education.

Employability Partnership Organisations

We have a six year proven track record developing the employability skills of vulnerable young people. We have supported young people through the Flexible Support Fund, Talent Match and Right to Control. We have worked in partnership with the DWP, JCP, The Princes Trust, Further Education Colleges, apprenticeship providers, youth work organisations and supported housing providers to deliver youth unemployment and NEET prevention interventions for vulnerable young people.

Evaluation and Monitoring

All of our interventions are measured for their effectiveness, this helps us make sure we always achieve positive outcomes. Using before and after measures also gives you an opportunity to measure the journey you have made whilst accessing our support.

About Our Team

Our support is delivered by our experienced team of Key Workers, Coaches and Trainers. Our delivery team all have a wealth of experience and qualifications gained from a range of backgrounds including welfare to work, youth work, careers advice and guidance and education. Our team are all passionate about supporting young people to develop and improve their employability skills, resilience, wellbeing and mental health.
