What is ‘Positive Psychology?’
Positive Psychology is the scientific study of human flourishing. Positive Psychology focuses on improving and promoting mental wellbeing rather than focusing on the causes and impacts of mental illness. When Positive Psychology is applied through a range of evidence based interventions it develops wellbeing, resilience and optimal functioning of individuals, organisations and communities. One of the most important applications for Positive Psychology is within the field of education, this is known as Positive Education and incorporates other wellbeing sciences.such as coaching psychology, mindfulness and neuroscience.
‘Positive Psychology’ in Schools
Although an emerging approach to the UK Worth-it have been actively working with UK schools for seven years, providing positive psychology interventions, training and support on a weekly basis in schools. Our team are expert at supporting schools to apply positive psychology to meet their specific aims and outcomes, working with them to create programmes and interventions that meet the pupils and community needs. This way of working is associated with many positive outcomes for pupils, staff and the whole school community and has been highly regarded by Ofsted in schools we are working with
What is ‘Coaching Psychology?’
Coaching Psychology has been shown to improve the mental wellbeing of children adolescents and adults. Coaching Psychology is recognised as an application of Positive Psychology whereby coaching provides the method of application of Positive Psychology research, such as experience of positive emotions, recognising and using strengths and developing interpersonal skills.
Coaching is increasingly being recognised and evidenced within the fields of education as effective intervention for learners, staff, schools and organisations. The majority of Coaching approaches to date have concentrated on academic or school performance; however, coaching has been demonstrated as being effective as holistic support for improving wellbeing and improving learning. We specialise in the integration of Positive Psychology and Coaching to improve wellbeing and prevent mental health problems with children, young people and schools.
We are members of professional bodies, including the IPPA (International Positive Psychology Association) , the Association of Coaching and IPEN (International Positive Education Network).
What is ‘Positive Education?’
Applied Positive Psychology within the field of education is known as Positive Education. Positive education combines the development of skills for wellbeing and skills for achievement and success through a range of integrated wellbeing science approaches and techniques. Positive Education is focused around solutions for early intervention; to build children and young people’s resilience and promote mental wellbeing. We are the leading UK organisation developing and delivering Positive Education within UK primary, secondary schools, colleges and muti academy trusts.
Worth-it are leading the devlopment of Positive Education in other ‘educational’ settings these include; youth and community sectors, welfare to work, colloborating with other children and young people’s organisations and working with families.
Worth-it are the first organistion to use Positive Education to link the sectors of health and eduction to develop and deliver intervetions that prevent mental health problems in children and young people.
Our Organisational Research
We are actively involved in contributing research and evidence for Positive Education. We disseminate our findings and implement new and innovative applications of Positive Psychology within education and community sectors. We are actively involved in pioneering this approach for developing resilience and improving the mental wellbeing of children, young people and schools.
